Qipanshan ranges from an elevation of 420 m to its highest peak at 1,340 m, with a relative elevation difference of more than 900 m. The vertical distribution of vegetation can generally be divided into three zones:
I. Deciduous Broad-Leaved Forest: Above 1,000 m in elevation, the upper parts of the shady slopes are mainly covered by shrub belts dominated by wild azalea, hornbeam, and smoke tree, as well as linden, lacquer tree, and Liaodong oak.
II. Mixed Coniferous and Broad-Leaved Forest: At elevations of 800–1,000 m, mountain broad-leaved forests and some coniferous forests are distributed, mainly consisting of Chinese pine, oak, elm-oak mixed forests, hornbeam, mountain peach, and other coexisting tree and shrub communities.
III. Planted Forest: In the valleys and terraces below 800 m in elevation, the vegetation mostly belongs to the warm temperate broad-leaved forest zone, mainly including Chinese white poplar, poplar, walnut, Manchurian walnut, apricot tree, willow, paulownia, as well as apple, persimmon, and pear trees.
