Taihang Mountain Zhangshiyan Geopark is located in Zanhuang County, Shijiazhuang City. Its administrative area covers four townships and towns: Zhangshiyan Town, Xuting Town, Yuantou Town, and Huangbeiping Township. The geopark covers an area of 451.6 km2. The western part of the park borders Xiyang County, Shanxi Province; the northern part borders Jingxing County and Yuanshi County; the eastern part connects with Zhangleng Township, Zanhuang County seat, Nanqinghe Township, and Xiyangze Township of Zanhuang County; and the southern part is adjacent to Lincheng County and Neiqiu County of Xingtai City. In 2023, the Zanhuang County Government launched the application for Taihang Mountain Zhangshiyan UNESCO Global Geopark. On March 7, 2025, it received approval from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration to be included in the China UNESCO Global Geopark project candidate list, through the Letter of the Department of Protected Area Management of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration on Approving the Inclusion of Taihang Mountain Zhangshiyan in the China UNESCO Global Geopark Project Candidate List (Protected Areas Letter [2025] No. 15). At present, Hebei Province does not have an independent UNESCO Global Geopark. The inclusion of our park in the candidate list is of milestone significance for the development of UNESCO Global Geoparks in Hebei Province. Our park is actively preparing the application materials and plans to submit the candidate-site application materials for Taihang Mountain Zhangshiyan UNESCO Global Geopark to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration before the end of this month, in order to participate in the domestic recommendation qualification review.
