On May 28, as International Children’s Day was approaching, Zhangshiyan National Geopark Management and Protection Center, together with Zanhuang County Xuguang School and the Institute of Geographical Sciences of Hebei Academy of Sciences, carried out a Zhangshiyan landform study and science popularization activity.
In the morning, 150 students entered the Zhangshiyan Nature Reserve to experience the natural scenery. Researcher Li Qingchen from the Institute of Geographical Sciences gave the children a vivid, engaging, and informative science lesson on the Zhangshiyan landform. He explained geological science knowledge in simple and accessible language, making abstract geographical concepts vivid and easy to understand. During the explanation, teachers and students from Zanhuang County Xuguang School carefully observed the bedding and bedding-plane structures of the rock layers, combining textbook knowledge with real landscapes, learning while walking and understanding the value of geology and landforms through observation.

As the first science popularization activity after Zanhuang, Hebei was included in the “Announcement on Recommended 2026 UNESCO Global Geopark Application Projects,” this event was an important practice by Zanhuang County Zhangshiyan National Geopark to promote geological science popularization among the public. Through first-hand experience, it brought geological science out of textbooks, into schools, and closer to the public, further enhancing public awareness and recognition of geological heritage protection, especially among young people. In the future, Zanhuang County Zhangshiyan National Geopark will continue to uphold the concept of scientific protection and sustainable development, carry out science popularization education and ecological protection publicity, and constantly innovate publicity methods, allowing ancient geological wonders to shine with lasting brilliance under scientific protection.
