On June 12, the Zhangshiyan National Geopark themed science popularization activity was successfully held in Zhangshiyan Scenic Area. With the theme of “Creating a UNESCO Global Geopark, Protecting Geological Heritage, and Promoting Community Development,” the activity was jointly organized by the Zhangshiyan National Geopark Management and Protection Center, Zanhuang County Culture and Tourism Bureau, Zhangshiyan Scenic Area, and Hebei Academy of Sciences. About 40 participants, including leaders from relevant county departments and newly recruited young scientific research backbones from Hebei Academy of Sciences, attended the event.

At the beginning of the activity, all participants visited the statue of the late renowned geographer Researcher Guo Kang from the Institute of Geographical Sciences of Hebei Academy of Sciences, the discoverer and namer of the Zhangshiyan landform. In front of the statue, Qiao Liang, a representative from the Institute of Geographical Sciences of Hebei Academy of Sciences, gave a heartfelt introduction to Researcher Guo Kang’s life story and reviewed the difficult yet glorious journey of the discovery and naming of the Zhangshiyan landform.

After the introduction, representatives from Hebei Academy of Sciences presented flowers to the statue of Researcher Guo Kang, expressing deep remembrance and high respect.

Afterwards, the participants visited the Zhangshiyan Geopark Museum, where Director Shi Jian from the Institute of Geographical Sciences of Hebei Academy of Sciences gave a detailed introduction to the museum’s development history and design concept, further deepening participants’ understanding of the construction of geological science popularization platforms.

Finally, all participants visited Jiunv Peak Scenic Area. At the entrance of the scenic area, the magnificent Zhangshiyan landform amazed everyone with the extraordinary craftsmanship of nature. Qiao Liang, representative of the Institute of Geographical Sciences, gave an on-site explanation of the formation process and evolutionary mechanism of the Zhangshiyan landform, integrating scientific knowledge with the natural landscape.

This activity not only effectively promoted in-depth cooperation and exchanges between Hebei Academy of Sciences and our park management organization, but also injected new momentum into the park’s future high-quality development.
We firmly believe that, with the goal of creating a UNESCO Global Geopark, Zhangshiyan National Geopark will embrace broader development prospects and become an important platform for showcasing the beauty of nature and the wonders of geology. It will also bring more employment opportunities and economic benefits to local communities. As the park management organization, we will continue to deepen cooperation with Hebei Academy of Sciences and other scientific research institutions, continuously improve the geopark’s management level and scientific research capacity, and make greater contributions to green development and community prosperity.
